On Saturday 15th October at 12 pm (EDT), Minecraft Live 2022 will commence; during this, it will be announced – amongst other things – which new mob will be part of Minecraft 1.20. However, before this can happen, the mob will be chosen by a vote on Friday 14th October. This vote will be between the Sniffer, the Rascal, and the Tuff Golem.
Firstly, the Sniffer, a friendly overworld mob that starts off life in an egg. This egg can then be hatched for the Sniffer to grow up into quite a large land animal. The Sniffer is a specialist in plants and can sniff the ground in order to find seeds (it is teased that if the Sniffer is voted into Minecraft 1.20, we will see a new plant type which could be very interesting). We also have been told that the only way to get the seeds for the new plant is with the Sniffer’s help.
Secondly, the Rascal – a friendly overworld mob that likes to play hide n’ seek in the mines. The Rascal has a unique feature that once you find it three times it will reward you with certain gifts. Personally, I think that the addition of a friendly overworld creature in the mines would be great as then there is another aspect of going caving rather than scrambling around caves trying to pick up some ores here and there while creepers are dropping on your head.

Finally, the Tuff Golem, a friendly overworld mob that can pick up items and move them around. The Tuff Golem is a very small stone golem-looking thing that sort of acts as a moving item display. I can definitely see players with multiple of these around their base showcasing their most prized items, such as the dragon egg or a beacon. We have also been told that like the other golems you will need to build it, however, unlike the other two it is completely passive. The Tuff Golem can also wear different coloured cloaks depending on the colour of wool you make it out of.

Now for my personal opinions on the three and also what I would like to see added in Minecraft 1.20.
The Sniffer: despite the promise of a new plant with this rather cute mob, I have never really seen eye to eye with plants apart from their use for dyes, so it is a no from me.
The Tuff Golem: despite the cool idea of a moving trophy display, we already have item frames and allays so the tuff golem’s features aren’t anything new. Hence, it is a no from me.
The Rascal: although not amazing in my opinion, it is definitely the best option because I love the idea of a little game resulting in a reward and a friendly cave mob, hence, I will be voting for the Rascal.
