Why should we join societies? (Join the 1509). Everyone seems excited to join this and that and do whatever they want but is it what we find appealing (the 1509 certainly conforms to this) or is there something more? Many, however, would argue that they always choose the right decision by virtue of selecting what they find appealing to them. For this controversial subject, we will ask the Headmaster, Dr. Cox, for his insight to this section of the school.
‘‘We don’t learn for school we learn for life” – Seneca. We are trying to prepare you for life after school, which means giving you an education beyond what we teach you in a classroom, because we need to create new habits of teamwork, collaboration and partnership. Working together in societies and outside classrooms are just as important in learning facts from a classroom. Therefore, I would encourage everyone in the RGS to take as many opportunities as possible, to develop their out-of-classroom skills.’ Says Dr. Cox.
Now we shall move on to interviewing first-form student Timmy Hatch about what they think about being in societies is all about.
‘I think that people should join societies and clubs to find people with similar interests to you. It is all very well having friend in your form and previous school but if you keep them and only them as your friends, then you are missing out of being friends with a lot (and I mean a lot) of people.’ – Timmy Hatch
We have now heard from multiple different people – From this we would like to hear your thoughts; you can contact us via: The 1509@rgsg.co.uk.
