Guildford is a town of great historic value. It is also home to a plethora of different food options. This article is going to be focusing on the Take-aways in central Guildford and more importantly, where you should go next to try out some wonderful food. I interviewed a range of students at the RGS to find my answers and some members of the public. Feel free to comment your opinions on take-aways in Central Guildford.

Obviously there are Take-aways that everyone has had before. In Guildford I would say there are the big 3 of these type of restaurants. These are McDonalds, Subway and KFC. When you go to these places you already know what you are going to get so therefore I am going to discount these from the list of the best places to eat.

#1 Rum Wong

Rum Wong is a Thai Restaurant very close to G-Live at 18-20 London Road (GU1 2AF). It offers authentic Thai cuisine right in the heart of Guildford. You can order food from Rum Wong on Deliveroo. There is a £9 minimum spend and a £2.50 delivery charge. They offer a variety of Thai delicacies with meat and seafood which you can usually accompany with rice or noodles. You can also buy soups and salads if you want to. Personally my favourite meal at Rum Wong would be the Ped pud med mamuang (£13.50). This is slices of duck stir-fry with roasted cashew nuts, spring onions, onions, mushrooms, red and green peppers. The people in Guildford love Rum Wong as well as it was rated 4.6 stars and one of the members of public that I interviewed said “The food doesn’t only touch your stomach it touches your soul.” I think this encapsulates the public opinion of the best take-away in Guildford.

#2 Zaitouna Express

Zaitouna is a Lebanese Restaurant in central Guildford at 54-55 North Street (GU1 4AH). Zaitouna serves up some delicious Mediterranean food. Their cuisine is colourful and tasty with a range of food for Meat-lovers and Vegetarians. They also offer deliveries after 5pm for people up to 3 miles away so that you can maybe experience a cute romantic dinner with a loved one or a dinner with the whole family. Personally I think the best food here is the Shwarmas. In particular the Mixed shwarma (£14.95) which is Thin slices of Lamb and Chicken Shwarma with Rice. One member of the Guildford public said “It is my favourite restaurant in Guildford and I would definitely recommend others to go there, the food is brilliant!”

#3 Wagamama’s

Wagamama’s is a well-known restaurant branch which I would highly recommend. It serves a variety of Asian food at a nice high standard. It is located at the bottom of the high street and is a very popular restaurant. Wagamama’s most ordered food is a Chicken Katsu curry which is definitely a must have for new Wagamama customers. Wagamama’s is rated 4 stars on TripAdvisor and is a consistently good restaurant. One male (Siddarth Sai Rayaprolu) I interviewed said “You can’t go wrong with a bit of waggas.” This quote perfectly sums up this restaurant as it is a pleasant experience pretty much every time. The price range is £20-30 per person so I would say it is perfect for a family lunch or dinner especially with the kids menu and the range of options of cuisine to choose from.

#4 Itsu

Itsu is a relatively new Restaurant in the heart of Guildford. It serves various sushi options and other Japanese food. The food is somewhat cheap and they have large portion sizes which would make it seem to be perfect for school and university students. So Far Itsu has a TripAdvisor rating of 5 stars but this could be seen as improper as they only have 9 reviews. Itsu also delivers to people as well. My experience of Itsu was perfect as it was a very clean restaurant and had extremely fast service. Other people I interviewed also seemed to like the new restaurant as 1 anonymous RGS student said that Itsu had a “Fast food vibe with a first class taste, it goes to the deepest part of your tongue and stimulates it and caresses it like a deep sensual massage!” This certainly shows that people love it here, However I felt like the 3 Take-aways rated above Itsu had to be there due to their longevity and consistency.

#5 Zizzi`s

Zizzi`s is a beautiful restaurant at the top of Guildford high street with a great Italian atmosphere. One enthusiastic member of the RGS said “As soon as you walk into the Restaurant the aura is one of a rustic street in the centre of Rome.” The food at Zizzi’s is top quality as well, they serve Italian food and I especially like their pizzas. The Pizzas smell good and taste good hence Zizzi`s place on this list. One unfortunate aspect of Zizzi`s however is that the service is not as fast as others on this list. For a full meal Zizzi`s is priced at around £15-30 per person which I would certainly say is good value for money. Zizzi`s is available to buy on Deliveroo so that you can sit down and watch tv whilst eating a delicious Italian pizza.
