Kamala Harris was officially confirmed as the Democratic candidate in tomorrow’s election at the Democratic National Convention from the 19th–22nd August. However, she was endorsed by Joe Biden on the 21st of July, after he stepped out of the race to become president, leading to the rise of multiple memes being tied to her campaign. Here are some of the top 5 moments that came out of these.

5. What’s your favourite curse word? It starts with an M and ends with an ah, not ER

This is very similar to the coconut meme later on; here Harris is being transgressive, as male presidential candidates are more open to using profanities (Trump is no stranger to using expletives to describe immigrants), yet there is more stigma around women using the same terms.

4. “Feminenominon”

Harris’ campaign aims to contrast Trumps signature statement of “Make America Great Again” with her own photos against the 2022 Chappelle Roan Song “Femininomenon”; Roan, an artist hugely popular amongst the younger generation, women and the LGBTQ community, is a symbol of Harris and her liberal attitude.

3. Taylor Swift endorsement

There is little to say about Taylor Swift; as the top Pop artist in the world, the swoons of women (and some men) who rally behind her now have their vote behind Harris, as Swift is pro-Harris. Swift’s endorsement led to Trump’s somewhat infamous Truth Social post “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT.”

2. Coconut (“you think you just fell out of a coconut tree”)

This vaguely incoherent statement from Harris has been used by Democrats to show support for her; the coconut tree emoji has been widespread across the internet as a symbol for the Pro-Harris movement; yet Republicans have weaponized this to show how Harris “beats around the bush” and may not have a clear plan for her presidency if she gets elected; on the other hand, neither does Trump.

1. Brat Summer

Kamala Harris’ campaign has generally attempted to appeal to the younger US population; a prime example of this being the brat rebranding of her profile. When Charli XCX tweeted “Kamala IS brat,” it was an opportunity waiting to be seized; Charli XCX herself said that being brat is being someone “who feels like herself but maybe also has a breakdown. But kind of parties through it, is very honest, very blunt. A little bit volatile. Like, does dumb things. But it’s brat. You’re brat. That’s brat.” This rebellious attitude is what Harris is trying to embrace, in contrast to the conservative Trump.
