As the 2025/2026 school year has begun, the RGS 1509 had the pleasure of interviewing your School Captain team for this year. Below is an introduction to our School Captain and the three deputies, and an insight into their interests and visions about the school.

Alex Kay

Q: What is your role on the senior prefect team?

I am the School Captain.

Q: What is your best memory at the school?

When we beat Cranleigh 26-24 away for the final game of our U-16A season.

Q: What motivated you to sign up to be a part of the senior prefect team?

I wanted to be a positive role model for the younger boys at the school, and to represent the student body of the school in the best way that I could.

Q: What is your favourite Song?

Arm’s Length by Sam Fender.

Q: What would be your last meal if you were in prison?

Starter: Calamari with fresh lemon squeezed on top

Main: A good, greasy burger, with onion, American cheese, tomato, lettuce, and crispy fries, but not too crunchy!

Dessert: Salted caramel ice cream

Drink: Water

Q: When you joined the school, did you envision yourself taking on one of these roles?

No, but I did hope that I would be able to become a prefect one day.

Q: Where did you go to school before RGS?

I went to Esher Church School.

Q: What is your favourite subject, and why?

Geography, I am quite good at it, and I find the relationship between humans and the natural environment very interesting. I also like the erosional processes in rivers and glaciers, and find them fascinating.

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to first form you, what would it be?

Make the most out of all of the opportunities you get at the school. School isn’t just about learning; it’s about making memories and friends before you have to deal with the real world after secondary school.

Q: If you could change one thing about the school, what would it be?

I know it isn’t possible, but I would love to have sports grounds on site, like some schools out in the countryside.

Tommy McMurray

I always admired previous senior prefects and aspired to reach their roles.

Q: Where did you go to school before RGS?

I went to Cranmore.

Q: What is your favourite subject, and why?

Politics – I’ve always had an interest in it, and the subject gets you the most in touch with the world around you.

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to first form you, what would it be?

I joined in third form, so if I were to give myself advice from then, I’d say enjoy life in general, as it goes by very fast.

Q: If you could change one thing about the school, what would it be?

The popular choice would be to allow crossing the JB Bridge both ways. However, on a more serious note, I would probably like to have a mixed sixth form. We have lots of opportunities with GHS and Tormead, and I’d love to expand this.

Yuvan Raja

Q: What is your role on the senior prefect team?

I am Deputy School Captain (Operations).

Q: What does operations mean, and what does your role entail?

The ‘operations’ means that as well as being a deputy school captain, I work with the school captain to make sure that the Senior Prefect Team functions at its best, and assign each member of the team their specific duties, like giving reflections in assembly, or overseeing the lunch queue.

Q: What is your best memory at the school?

Winning the house quiz in 4th form for Beckingham. It was a tense final against Nettles, and to come away with a victory was amazing.

Q: If you could give one piece of advice to first form you, what would it be?

Make the most of all the opportunities the school has to offer.

Q: If you could change one thing about the school, what would it be?

In an ideal world, I would bring back the Starbucks next to the school, and the tuck shop in North Court, and maybe also expand the range of subjects offered to the lower years to include things like food-tech.
